17 Station Road UD Rotherham 1948

Would be grateful if anyone is able to advise whether the above address was some sort of care home/workhouse in 1948.  It has turned up on a death certificate as the place of death and where the informant is listed as a 'W Bartholomew Causing the body to be buried Devonshire Road Rotherham'.  I am assuming, rightly or wrongly, that perhaps W Bartholomew may have been the person in charge at Station Road or perhaps an undertaker.  The latest Googlemaps does show a funeral director located in Station Road next door to a very large building which I think was possibly at the location in 1948.  I have not come across the term used in the informant box before so would appreciate any further information.  Thank you for your time and any assistance you are able to offer.
