Thomas Prime
« on: Wednesday 07 March 12 16:35 GMT (UK) »
Hi again, can anyone help me with identifying the parents of Thomas Prime. I've two birth dates 1794 & 1797 both taken from CLDS indices, one putting birth place as Newton Shitler, surely a mistake, and the other Newton Thistle, I belive this is close to Tamworth in Warks. Both refer to the father being John and mother Elizabeth Duel?. Thomas moved to Elmdon, Warks. and had a son John who was christened in St. Martins in 1828. Where would the church records be held for this area of Warwickshire?
Many thanks if you can help with any of this. :)
Principally:- Prime, Trafford, Lamb(e), Heath

Christening St.Martin's,28th.July 1828;
John Prime born:19th.October 1827.
Parents:Thomas & Sarah Prime.
Occ:Wood turner.
Add:Staniforth St. B'ham.
There's also James born 5th.April.1829 living at Potter St.
& a daughter Jane born 7th.Dec.1830.
There may be others.
You're other query probably relates to the same couple having had a son who died & naming the next one after him.
Edit:
The place is Newton Regis & the only Thomas Prime there was Christened in 1787,Parents:John & Elizabeth.
Is this your man?

Thanks jim1, that's the family I'm after. Knew about John & James, James later sailed for the Americas, didn't know about Janes though! Their father Thomas is the one I'm trying to get information on, born in Newton Regis. Any idea where the local church records would be held, Warwick R O perhaps?

The records are held at War.CRO they are also online on Ancestry.
There is also an older child called William which you may know about.
There are no other Prime's listed as being born in Newton Regis that I can find.

:) Many thanks jim1, I guess that the older son william is the brother of Thomas?? It's the father and mother of Thomas that I'm after confirming, John & Elizabeth Duel who married in Stivichall, Warks., I have this John's parents as John and Elizabeth Lea, married in Harbury, Warks., but I'll try and support this with a trip to Warks. CRO sometime in the near future. Once again thanks for the time and effort, much appreciated.

Marr:Styvichall 13th. Oct. 1779
John Prime of the Parish of Stoneleigh
Elizabeth Duel of this Parish
Both signed X
Wit:
Elizabeth Hanson
Thomas Crump (Church Warden)
He's probably this one Christened at Bickenhill about a mile from Stoneleigh:
John Prime Ch:17th Jan. 1755,parents Samuel & Elizabeth.
Also another son James was Christened at the same time
The William I referred to was Thomas' son.
I'm not sure how you make the connection between this couple & Thomas' parents in Newton Regis.

jim
Edit:Just for information Newton Regis was previously called King's Newton & before that Newton in Le Thistles. It was common land lived on by squatters early on.
It was on the boundary of Warks.Staffs. Derbys. & Leics.Your John & Elizabeth may have come from one of the other Counties

:) Thanks for that added information jim1.
So all these Newton's refer to the same place, i.e close to Tamworth??
I have no definate proof that Thomas was the son of John & Elizabeth Duel ( Stivichall) I guess I've to start touring around the Records Offices in Warwick and surrouning areas!! I picked up the recorded birth of a relative of the Primes in Birmiingham Library for 1828 and all it confirmed was the fathers name and current address, is this all one can expect??

All you can expect pre 1837 is father's name & occupation (1812 on) & mother's first name & where they were living.
You don't know where they moved to or how long they lived, all you know is they were John & Elizabeth & there's more than 1 John & Elizabeth Prime at this time in Warks. as you know.
What you can do is trace all of Thomas' children & see if there's another family member living with them although this is a long shot.
