obits on Ancestry (for Canada)
« on: Thursday 08 March 12 02:31 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Help please!I have found a reference toan obituary for Alexander B Glencross  12.1 1990 on Ancestry obits page, but can't see how you get to it - any ideas?

It says it is the "Daily Times Index"
Published place US
Death  place Montreal
and then "Times Transcrip (NB) 1990.1.12
I'm guessing the NB is New Brunswick?
But the Daily Times in New Brunswick seems to have been closed for many years prior to 1990.

Make any sense to anybody?

Any help gratefully received!

Thanks

Ah...this is why you can't get to it....it's just an index:
"WE DO NOT HAVE THE ACTUAL OBITUARIES. Regular volunteers may request a particular copy from each other. For others, GEN-OBIT is an easy way to find a publication date of an obit. You can then refer to the newspaper to get a copy of it (at the library or directly with the newspaper itself)."

I see there's still a Glencross in Pointe-Claire. Very nice area, I know it.

Hi China
Thanks for the info. Can't get at the tree as it needs a subscription even from the library, but I think I have seen it via Mundia.
I'm still confused about which newspaper the obit is in though (easily done!).
It can't be the New Brunswick Daily Times can it? I think it is no longer in print. So what paper is it in?

Thanks for looking  8)

The info appears to be from The Obituary Daily Times which, as China pointed out, is an indexing service. There does not appear to be an obit on line. From poking around the website attached to the entry, it appears the newspaper might be the Times Transcript from Moncton New Brunswick. My suggestion would be to google the Moncton Public Library and inquire about a lookup. Most libraries have an 'ask a librarian' service. You have a date for them to use so hopefully they would do that.

Alternately, here is a link to the newspaper website. You need to register to get in and I don't know what they would provide or if there would be a charge ....

Thanks polar bear.
Will try that avenue.
It's not actually a direct relative - just filling out the tree!
