« on: Thursday 08 March 12 09:13 GMT (UK) »
Hello
Does anyone know where Altheimersburg Weissenburg Gunzenhausen is in Germany?
Trying to find out where the D.P camps were.
Thanks for any help.

Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen is a Kreis (district) in the west of Bavaria, Germany.

What's a D.P. camp? ;D

Thank you for your reply.
A DP camp was for displaced persons.

I haven't been able to find  the town of Altheimersburg, maybe it has gone or renamed.

The name is spelled with an "e" - Altheimersberg, and all references seem to point to a forested area?
SW from Pappenheim?

Berg means hill!

E.G. The camp at Buchenwald was originally called Ettersberg, named after the hill of that name.

Thank you very much.I think you are right as I also have details that have family living in Pappenheim just prior to them being in Altheimersberg.
I am trying to map out all the places the family were moved to during WWII but some of the towns have been renamed so it has been a bit slow going.
Thanks again for your help.

There looks to be a quarry in the vicinity?
Schachenschlag

Maybe that's a clue?

Thanks
I appreciate your help.
Maybe the quarry was once a camp?

Our family was certainly moved around Germany. They were in around 9 camps. Some at the end of the war waiting for immigration.
