Do you have a marriage cert for Mary & Michael ?

see : Introduction to Irish Records
My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start?

Finnegan is quite a common surname, so I think I'd follow up on the marriage to find out about Mary's father first, otherwise you could end up following the wrong Finnegan family.

There are a few births on the BMD Index around the right time for that surname in the Registration District which covers Balbriggan - including a Mary Finigan in 1876... but I'd look for more clues from the marriage cert before following this up :

Finnegan births, Balrothery District 1872 to 1876

a possible marriage for Michael and Mary ?

  Quarter / Year : Jun 1893
  Registration District :  Dudley
  Volume : 6c
  Page : 175
  Mary Finnigan
  Michael Gartland
  William Punter
  Alice Maude Wolverson

Dudley registration district covers parts of Staffordshire and Worcestershire. Not that close to Cumberland, but maybe they moved after they married ?

That could be them ! Thank you so much !!!
Micheal was born in flimby maryport cumberland but could have worked away where he met mary, then brought her back here,

you would need to order a marriage cert to check the full details, like date and place of marriage, current residences, father's names, occupations  and also confirm that match - it's not guaranteed. All that index shows is that the those 4 names appear on the same register page.

You can use the references I posted to order a cert from the GRO - see :
