New South Wales Birth - Elvy May MARTIN
« on: Sunday 11 March 12 21:58 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
Trying to find a birth record for my grandmother Elvy May Hammond (nee Martin). Father Thomas Martin (believe Thomas S H Martin) who was from the Mudgee area.
Elvy was born around 1911 in NSW, most probably Parramatta area.
Married to Ernest Charles Hammond in 1939.
Sibling Irene (about 1900) and Thomas (unknown).

Appreciate any help or guidance on where to start researching, BDM site does not have a cert for her.

Thanks, John

Thankyou, yes that is her sister. I am wondering if perhaps she was born in 1912 hence BDM wont allow search on it..

Yes it's possible. It would be odd if there was a 12 year gap though. Have you checked QLD.

That's a sensible suggestion, just trying but QLD site is presently down. I will try the other states first.

Is Elvy the name she was registered with or could that be an abbreviation of Elva, Elvira, Elvina or some such, I wonder?

I've been lucky this morning and struck a glitch in the NSW system and have Martin births to 1942, and can't see a birth for her under Elvy.

I can see Thomas S H Martin's marriage to Florence E Hall in 1897.

Thanks - on the marriage cert its Elvy May and certainly the name we all knew her by. But as I am learning, some facts are stone and some are glass! I am also trying variations of the name, picking up if it was middle names etc.

Mothers middle name was Evelyn, so maybe Elvy was a variant of that.
