Charles Messenger who died 1869 died from Pluritis & Pericarditis he had had this for 12 days when he died that was 9th October. His occupation was listed as a Carter.

It gives his Parents as John Messenger and Susannah nee Dowler. It actually say Formerly Dowler. I wonder if she was married before? Possibly to a White or was she actually a Barker. 8)

It also says he was from Coleshill England. ;D

I dont have anything on Eliza except what you have now found on here. Interesting. :o

I wonder with Serous Apoplexy if that equates to a modern condition. (Looks Like Google) ???

Before someone else beats me. Serous Apoplexy is an Antiquated term for a stroke accompanied by a weak pulse and an effusion of seros fluid to the spinal cavity. ???

Gees that was enlightening! :o

I'd say it was probably the son who found her body not a deceased hubby & the newspaper is incorrect  ;D

Charles Jr would have been about 16yo then & probably working the same job as dad.

Mmm I wonder if the husband ( :o) that found Eliza was actually a Mr James Leutell. A neighbour and friend of the deceased Mr Charles Messenger who was the informant on Charles's DC.

I have the feeling he may have been misidentified as the HUSBAND. I dont think they would have confused 16 YO.??

Neil, seriously suspicious?

Hmm the newspaper item is a bit odd as, as well as saying she was found by her husband, it also says her husband was drunk the previous night  ???  Possibly just a mistake with her husband and son having the same name.

Neil, do you have her DC?  Wondered about her parents' names and her birthplace.

Pleased to see I had found the right chap in Coleshill  ;D  Will have a hunt for Susannah but at a cursory look there are quite a few with the same name in that area.

Hi
The Elizabeth MESSENGER who died 1869 could be the wife of Isaac MESSENGER.
Isaac MESSENGER and Elizabeth Mayhew DENNIS had children in the  Richmond area in the 1860s
Charles wife's name was Eliza.
I can get a copy of the death inquest for Elizabeth MESSENGER at the Public Records office when I go next time.

Hi Leonie, strangely it makes no mention of children. This is not a DC but an entry in the deaths for Richmond. There are four to a page and is an Uncertified register.

Are you thinking that Elizabeth is not Eliza? Well I just thought she cannot be because Eliza was one of the witnesses to son Charles Wedding to Louisa Solomon in 1872. ::)

I just rechecked that and I am correct. So Eliza is still around and possibly connected to a William Powell the other witness.

Hi Neil
Look on Trove under "Isaac MESSENGER" 4 Mar 1872 The Argus Melbourne. :'(

Isaac could be the brother of Charles.
