I've been researching this interesting story since 2007. I'd be very happy to provide you with details. Are you looking for a specific soldier? I've attached a 1947 article from the Halifax Herald for more background. Hope to hear from you.

Cheers,

Dave

Hello and thank you Daveyg for your reply, I have printed this and as i type it is on its way to Tameside council's planing department as we are a small band of local people who are trying to get tameside council to erect a blue plaque in their honour. The plaque was to go on the remains of the wall of the ladysmith barracks in Ashton-under-lyne but unfortunately Tameside blue plaque scheme has refused us one. so now we are trying to procede through the private route through planning and English Heritage so any information that you could provide ourselves with would be most appreciated.
Thank you Simon

Hello Simon,

This is fantastic news! Thank you & your group so much for this. I am in contact with the families of over thirty of the men & this will certainly make their day as much as it's made mine.

I've 'PM'ed' you my email address as I have a wealth of info collected about the men & their story. I am currently away from my home PC at the moment however I'll be home later on this evening (Halifax time).

On Sunday August 28, 2011 we held the first 'Meet & Greet' afternoon for the families & friends of the ‘Halifax Hundred’ at the Royal Canadian Legion Fairview NS. The attendance far exceeded my expectations & it was wonderful meeting so many people in person that I have conversed with either via email or the phone these past several years. In addition to displays created for over sixty of the men, several families also brought in personal items – incredible treasures which certainly enhanced the event.

The attached photo shows the Honour Guard 292 Halifax Fairview Branch #142 Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron escorting wreath layers Mary Hook & Clyde Cruickshanks. War Bride Mary is the widow of Sgt. Clary Hook 2nd Manchesters 1939-1946. Clyde is the son of Lance Corporal Clyde Cruickshanks 2nd Manchesters 1939-1945 (POW 1940-1945), KIA 11/27/1950 Korea 29th Battalion, Royal Ulster Rifles. Born in Scotland, raised in Australia, this was Clyde’s first visit to his father’s hometown & country.

Thank you again Simon & I look forward to talking with you.

Dave
