OK I am back again.
I am now looking for my mothers adopted family - because she wants to know.
There are a pretty uncommunicative lot - they didnt talk much, and didnt keep a lot of records either.
So here is what I have got. Most of this information comes from the WINDER family Bible that my mother inherited.
My ADOPTED grandfather was John Francis WINDER - born Footscray, (Melbourne) Victoria Australia, 28 May 1901. He was better known as Frank and that is what I will call him. He died in NZ in 1971.
His parents names were John James WINDER And Mary Jane DEE. I dont know when or where they were married but according to the family bible they had the following children - all born in Footscray, Victoria, Australia.
Mary Helen (1888)
Leslie James (1891)
Agnes Frances (1892)
David william Hendon (1898)
and
John Francis (1901)
The family seems to have emigrated to New Zealand around 1908 - but so far I cant seem to find any record of that.
The 1908 comes from the death record of 2 of the children (died in NZ) who both indicated how long they were in NZ and the years calculated go back to 1908.
But I have no idea what ship and what port.
They were living in Dunedin NZ, so it may have been Port Chalmers or Bluff.
Oh and the family bible also says that John James WINDER came from Kensington (Melbourne) Vic, and Mary Jane DEE was from Werrilee (Melbourne) Vic.
So if I could have some help finding the marriage record of John James WINDER to Mary Jane DEE sometime prior to 1888, and a passenger list to NZ around 1908, that would be great to start with. Thank you.
