Hi there.  I came across this discussion in an Internet search.  My real name is Wayne Winder, great grandson of William David Hendon Winder (Dave), b. 1895 and d. 1979, who emigrated from Australia to New Zealand.  I have some information you might find useful.  Dave's mother Mary Jane Winder (Dee) eloped with a married man named William Cocking, who left his wife and (I think) three young children behind.  A few years ago, I had e-mail contact with a Bill Cocking, who was a descendant of one of those left behind, who told me this story.  I suspect Mary's husband (John? Winder) was dead by this time.  They left Melbourne and came to Dunedin, sometime around 1903 if I recall correctly.  They married some years later.  Mary's cemetery record is here: http://www.dunedin.govt.nz/facilities/cemeteries/cemeteries_search?recordid=11696&type=Burial.

Dave served as a driver in WW1, before marrying Jessie Barnes (nee Moss) on 25 Mar 1921, in Dunedin, New Zealand.  Jessie's first husband, Charles Barnes, died in WW1, leaving behind three children under five.  Dave adopted these children as his own when he married Jessie, and they changed their surname to Winder (these were Joseph, Grace, and Charles).  On 3 Feb 1924, Dave and Jessie had David Eric Hendon Winder (Eric), my paternal grandfather, in Dunedin.  Thus, Eric and his descendants are the only blood Winder from Dave's line.

I hope this information is useful.  I am currently researching my genealogy and have got back as far as my great-grandparents (including Dave).  The information included earlier in this thread will be useful when I research my great-great-grandparents.

I can see three births to ANNIE JANE PETTMAN.

Two pre-date her marriage.
Two are female and one male.

I can type up if of interest.
