Heavy Registers
« on: Monday 16 May 05 17:47 BST (UK) »
About five years ago I spent three days in London carrying out family research most of this was in the FRC looking at census and registers.

On the third day decided to go back to FRC to look through BMD's again.  The room was very busy and people were jockying for spaces - anybody that has been you will know what I mean  ???  Very nice lady standing to my left, to her left was a "grumpy old man" complaining about people taking up too much room, he picked up a register that the lady had taken out put it towards the top of the sloping desk, as I watched it slid down and before I could move dropped onto my foot  :o
I didn't realise until then that the registers have metal corners  ???

The lady asked if I was alright, no apology from grumpy.  Not wanting to make a
fuss I walked over to a chair and sat down.  Suddenly thought my foot feels a bit wet, looked down and there was a slow trickle of blood going over the floor.

Hobbled off the to the cloakroom and some kind soul found some dressings.

It was a hot day and I had decided to wear sandles.  When I have been back
since I always wear sturdy shoes.

So be warned folks family research can be dangerous  ::)

Perhaps I shouldn't have posted this in The Lighter Side!
