David the RG number is the number of the census ie 1891 is RG12 and 1901 is RG13.

So basically RG12/265 is the reference and with the folio number 83 using them all together will lead you to the correct page where the info is stored in the census.

By address as specified i think she means at the address you gave.

Probably from the ancestry site.

Also if you click that link from Pauline, then click advanced options at the bottom right you get more options, including occupation.

I checked and the only John Rowson carpenter is from walsall.

It is on ancestry.co.uk where they have 1861/71/81/91 and 1901 censuses.

That is the address in the 1891 census.

Still cannot find them in 1901 but there is a family transcribed as RAWLINS with head of family John born Shrewsbury wife louisa born London and kids called PERCY, martha, thomas and Ernest all about the same years as the rowsons but john is a general labourer.

Hello Kev,

Thanks very much for all your and Pauline's help

I shall subscribe to Ancestry.co.uk

I now know that in 1891, John Henry Rowson & Louise Rowson resided at :

68 Viaduct Street, Bethnall Green.

I also know that their son ( my Grandfather ) was also born in 1891 at:

14 Seabright Street, Bethnall Green.

I have one last question please :

If John Henry Rowson & Louise Rowson appear on 1891 but not on 1901, do you have any tips on which way to go in order to:

Follow their movements from 1891 onwards.

Thankyou very much

David

HI David, I can tell you that they are not living at either of those addresses in 1901. I have been through the 1901 census til i found those houses and they are not there.

The thing is that as all of them are missing in 1901 they have probably been mistranscribed as saw Bowson or Rawlson so you can search using the soundex option and get some variations but you wouldn't believe what i have already tried(just entered john and Shropshire as place of birth and then checked all of them)  It will be a lot of trial and error.

Do you have them in 1881 or earlier?

Or have they appeared with a variation of the surname?

Could they be abroad?

in 1881 John Rowson with parents Thomas and Martha at 4 Severn Street, Shrewsbury. He is a carpenters apprentice.

Don't know if that is of use to you?

Hello Kev,

Flip me :

You are a star:

I don't underdstand 1881 or Soundtex as I am literally brand new to this, but I thank you very much for yr help:

I now know, courtesy of your and Pauline's help:

On 05/04/1891:  John Henry Rowson and Louise/a Rowson resided at:

                           68 Viaduct Steet, Bethnall Green

On 21/04/1891:  Edward Percy Rowson ( My Grandfather ) was born at:

                           14 Seabright Steet, Bethnall Green

On 10/03/1918: Edward Percy Rowson ( my Father ) was born at:

                           7 Glasgow Road, Islington,

I also know that  John Henry Rowson may have come from Shrewsbury.

What I am trying to do is find out what happened between 1891 and 1918 ( My Father's year of birth ). They just seem to have disappeared.

I doubt they would have moved abroad. They were through and through Londoners, although perhaps John Henry my Great Great Grandfather could have got involved in the Boer ?

Hello Kev,

I shall order John Henry Rowson's birth certificate now that I know:

My late Father told me that he thought there was a Shrewsbury connection,   so it shouldn't be too tricky to locate his details.   Also Pauline mentioned circa 1865 from some magic all of which escapes me at present,   but I am sure the penny will drop.

and I shall see if Thomas & Martha were his parents ?

A )  Both you and Pauline are stars

b ) Is this all from Ancestry.co.uk ?

Many thanks

David
