Help Identifying a Crest
« on: Tuesday 20 March 12 04:02 GMT (UK) »
I was wondering if anyone has any information on this crest on this Walking Cane. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Welcome to rootschat Michael.

Isn't this a hallmark rather than a crest? I will have a hunt around and see if I can come up with something.

I have had a look at marks online, but identifying this might be beyond me I'm afraid. Can you describe what the image is inside the shield. It is a bit unclear in your photo. Or maybe take a closer up photo from front on rather than an angle?

Also, do you have any idea of the origin of the walking stick?

Not sure where the walking stick is from...

It tested at what the gold tester thought was 9 Karat Gold so it is older solid top?

That was the best picture I have right now of the crest and I am adding two additional pictures.

Thanks :)

THe number 50 doesn't seem to give any kind of carat value. 'A' may be the maker's mark. What is the thing inside the shield? Is it a figure of some sort or a letter?  :-\ It doesn't appear to be one of the English makers. I have no idea what the number in the circle is.

Do you know any history about the cane at all? What country are you in?

Did the gold tester tell you anything about it apart from the fact that they thought it was 9ct?

The thing inside the shield could be a letter S - in some kind of blackletter or Olde Englishe letterform  ???

That's what I was thinking. (But hoping it wasn't as I find it really difficult to differentiate between the various letters ...) I can't see a way to even work out what country this may have been made in.  :-\

Although that shield is a distinctive shape I cannot see it in my book of Hallmarks. The only one that comes close to the same shape, has a completely different picture in the centre. Sorry I can't be of more help. I hope someone with more knowledge will be able to id it for you.  :)
