1851 census - West Kilbride
« on: Tuesday 20 March 12 05:16 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I have the 1841 census for:-

Michael McLaughlan aged 50 years
born Ireland
Address - Overton Street
Parish 620

Michael McLaughlan
Ann Mc
Elizabeth Mc
John Mc
William Mc
Michael Mc
James Mc
Agnes Mc
Margaret Mc
Elizabeth Mc
Elizabeth Mc
Patrick McArthur

I cannot see this family in the 1851 census but in the 1851 census I can find:-

John McLacklan
born Ireland
Address Overton Row

John Mc
Catharine
John Mc
William
Margaret Wilson

Now I am assuming this John is the John in the 1841 census above.  I have this family in all census up to and including 1891 census (my ancestry line).

What I want to know is where did the rest of the family go in the 1851 census.

Is anyone able to shed some light on this for me?

Thanks to those that read this.

Cheers

Wendy

But the John aged 15 in the 1841 census was born in Scotland.

The John you have found in 1851 says he was born in Ireland?

Of course one of them could be wrong ....  :-\

Having said that, I cannot easily see that 1841 family in 1851 either..

I take it that the John in 1851 is married to Catherine? If you find their marriage it may tell you if John's father is Michael ... then at least you'll know if you have the right John in 1851.
