1916
« on: Friday 23 March 12 15:40 GMT (UK) »
Hi hope somebody can help.My fathers aunt Mary Leech served in Cumann na Mbann in 1916 and either was or did marry a british soldier. At present i am unable to find records of either service or marriage. She is not on the census returns either. She was born in 1871.After the rising she did time in Mountjoy so i have been told. The soldiers name was John Nicholson we believe. Any suggestions would be welcome.
                                                 Thanks  Collech

Hi there Collech - can you give a bit more info.

What were Mary's parents names ?
Do you know where in Ireland she was born ?
Do you have an approxmate year of marriage ?
Did she marry in Ireland or England ?
Should she be on the 1901 & 1911 Irish or British census ?

Any of the above answers may help !

Tara

Hi,Tara
      Thanks for the reply.
Her parents are James Leech and Christina Mulligan,
she was born Seville Place Dublin as for approximate year for
marriage sometime between 1900 and 1924, we think Ireland
but not sure. As she took part in 1916 we assume the Irish
census.Sadly this is all i have to go on regarding Mary Leech.

No joy yet on Mary's marriage but here's some baptisms of Mary (Maria) and siblings and her parents' marriage record. Maybe you have these already?

           Regarding Mary,
Thanks johnjensen for that and Sancti the family do not

Hello Collech,

Tara is quite right in her suggestions, I would also suggest contacting the Irish National Archives in Bishop St. Dublin by phone or email and asking for their help.  Collins Barracks in Dublin has considerable archives, also Cathal Brugha Barracks.  All these things, of course, you may have done.  There is a book called Guns and Chiffon (author unfortunately I have forgotten) but is about womens' involvement in the rising and will have useful references and bibliography. Hope this is of some little help. Good luck
