Hi all,

My great-grandmother was Jane Saurin, married to Thomas Hand, living in Queen's square, Dublin. My grandmother, Margaret, was married to their first child, John, and he had two children, one of whom is my mother. John died young, in his 40s, and my grandmother returned to her native Galway with her very young children. We have really lost touch with our Dublin side of the family.

I've done a good bit of research on the Saurin side at this point - Michael TT Saurin and Anna Nugent were Jane's parents.

If anyone is still logging in here and would like to share info, please let me know - I'm sure some of us are cousins!

Hi - i got the message. I am lisa hand’s grandchild James.  Lisa was Johns sister. Happy to share info.

Lisa (kenny) also died very young in her 40’s when my mother was 8 in 1963.

My mother would know more about the Hands.

Hi James, thanks so much for replying! Looks like we're cousins!

We know very little about the Hands because of the move to Galway, but my Uncle, John Jr, kept in touch with Susie (John's sister). When my mother was nursing over in UK in the 70s, she met and spent time with Uncle Noel (John's brother) and has some photos.

I've been focusing on the Saurins (mistake in previous post - Michael JJ, not 'TT' - the perils of typing late at night) because my Uncle John is interested in that side and I said I'd have a look.

About 5 years ago I found the grave in Glasnevin where John, Thomas, Jane, and Cassandra are buried (very sadly, no headstone or any kind of marker). I had a stone marker made with names and dates on it, so if you or your mother would like to check it out, it's there, in the St Paul's section.

Would love to talk more James - my mother (Rita) will be delighted we've made contact.
