Hi Don

Welcome to Roots Chat.

Salford is a lovely place isn't it?
Are you not from the area then - the ROSE family name is still very strong now in Chipping Norton. I used to have 2 fellas worked for me in the mid 80's and 90's in Chippy. So a look in the electoral rolls and phone books will help you.

But to go backwards,  then as Bucks boy says you need to pop a bit more info on here about specific folks - not living - and there are loads of people who will be pleased to help you out.

Good luck

Hi Don ...

A quick trawl around the FreeBMD website (www.freebmd.org.uk - free online viewing of births, marriages and deaths from 1837) and various censuses found the following.

The marriage of Reuben ROSE and Alice THORNETT (the couple mentioned in your second post) was registered in Chipping Norton in 1874.  Their children (extracted from subsequent censuses) were:  Emily (c1877), Percival R. (c1880), Albert H. (c1883), Walter Wm. (c1885) (your grandfather), Alfred A. (c1890), Daisy (c1893), Thomas (c1896) (your great-uncle "Thomas Frederick"?) and Ivy (c1899).

On the 1901 census, the family are living with Reuben's father (Henry  - see Bucksboy's posting of the 1881 census entry above) at Rectory Farm, Salford.  (The 1871 census entry confirms that Reuben's parents were Henry and Frances.)

Hope this may help you on your way!
