Parish registers for St.Margaret Westminster
« on: Saturday 31 March 12 09:59 BST (UK) »
Can anyone tell me what years are available for St. Margaret in Westminster? I have a baptism in 1813 at that church that I found on ancestry.com, and a further sibling in baptised in 1822 at same church. Subsequent siblings were baptised in Lambeth (St.Mary). My direct ancestor has a birthyear of approximately 1818 in the same area, but ancestry doesn't seem to have 1817/1818 available for St.Margaret Westminster.
Where can I find those missing years, and hopefully find my missing ancestor?

Ancestry has provided transcriptions of the Bishops Transcripts of the registers of the registers deposited at the City of Westminster Archives.

Westminster are working with FindMyPast to digitise and transcribe the originals.

The FindMyPast project is still a 'work inprogress'

What is available now is here

http://www.findmypast.co.uk/cms/FindMyPast/pdf/Westminster-parish-records-coverage.pdf

There's still a lot to come ie St George Hanover Square

FindMyPast has some Westminster images online, as from 27 March. Have been getting errors, so either very busy or they are still uploading. As Dawn says, a work in progress.

Thanks all for replies. Unfortunately, I don't have access to FindMyPast at this stage. Do any of you know why ANCESTRY doesn't have all the years available for that church - are they missing, or have they just not been uploaded to their site yet?

Tony, I will send you a PM, and hopefully you may be able to help me!

Thanks, Katharine.

Hi Katharine

Ancestry haven't put them online because the London Metropolitan Archives doesn't have a copy deposited with them for safe keeping.

If you still need a look-up at the Westminster Archives please post the names here so that someone can help.

Unless the information requested is about living people, there is no need for Rootschatters to send information on the personal message system.

If there is info to share, please post it openly so that we can all see what is known or has been found, others will then be happier to contribute and may have further things to add. Some chatters may be put off if they think it has all been done already, behind the scenes.

Please note that many people find the site using internet search engines and if the details aren't posted, you might miss out on potential links/ relatives.

hello k

i have checked st margaret's volumes 15-20 (1811-1820) volumes 20-23 (1820-1828)
and volumes 24-27 (1828-1836).

within those all i found was john which you already have (17/12/1813) and charles james (1832) son of john serj(g)eant and amelia elbra.

so, i will have to try london metroplitan archives for the relevant parish or sister parish in lambeth.

i will update you as and when and if i find a lead.

all the best for now
