I think it's John, not Job, and it also says he was a bricklayer.

David,

Do you have a reference for the marriage of John Brown and Elizabeth Jeeves Dec 25 1863 as I am unable to locate one on FreeBMD?

There is an Elizabeth Jeeves listed but no other name with it for Dec 1863, Biggleswade 3b 829. Do you think this is the same one?

Regards,

Mark.

I took the marriage from the IGI. Yes, it's probably the same marriage, but you're premature ordering a certificate until you have Allen's birth cert to confirm his mother's name was Jeeves.

Okay, the birth cert of Nicolas Allen Brown reads as:-,

Reg Dist of Hitchin, Sub-dist of Baldock, in the county of Herts.

23rd Feb 1865 @ Stevenage, birth of Nicolas Allen Brown, Father John Brown Journeyman Bricklayer, Mother Elizabeth Brown, formerly Jeeves.

So well done to Tazzie and David, spot on.  ;)

I assume Elizabeth Jeeves will be okay to follow, not so sure about John Brown. I will do my best and I have the marriage cert to order if I come unstuck.

Many thanks, once again.

Mark.

A result! I'm pleased as I don't know what we'd have done if it had been the wrong one.

You can now order the marriage cert to get John's father's name. Hopefully it'll be something distinctive like Obadiah, but there's every chance it'll be John!

Great result ..... John Brown a little harder...

strangely did find Allen Jeeves on a few IGI baptisms in Bedfordshire so the family may cross more than once.

Keep us posted Mark and will jump in if you need a bit of help. Somehow my notification on the post did not come through so missed your last post in April.

Yes, I'd take Obadiah or even 'Omodon' at this stage but likely to be John.............

I found a few Elizabeth Jeeves around that time, also Eliza Jeeves 1838 Sandy whose parents were Allen/Harriet Jeeves. Could be a red herring.

I have found nothing to link these nor anything on the 'Hugh Wallis' listings re marriage of Allen/Harriet so, unless I unearth something else, it looks like another couple of weeks for the marriage cert of John/Elizabeth.

I am somewhat curious as the Allen Jeeves b1808, father of Eliza,  is still around with his widowed daughter in the 1881 census. He has 145 Acres, a servant, 9 men and 2 boys working for him. I cannot believe that he would be living like this whilst his 'daughter' and 'grandchildren' are living it up in the workhouse.......But, you never know!!

Regards,

Mark.
