1860/1870 US, 1865/1875 Massachusetts Ellis Greenhalge
« on: Monday 02 April 12 23:00 BST (UK) »
Ellis Greenhalgh (b. 1819 Turton, England), moved to the US from Bolton, England and married Alice Rachel McDowell (b. 10 Nov 1824, Ireland) on 19 Oct 1855 in Lawrence, MA, USA.  He died in Lawrence in 1875.

Later census records (1880 and on) show his widow and 6 children, but I can't find any of their birth records nor does the family show up on any of the state or federal census records I mentioned in the subject line.  At least some of the offspring's later records say they were born in Lawrence.  I can follow his son Frances' line down to today (my son!)

Any ideas?  Thanks so much!!

THANK YOU!  I found 5 of the 6 kids, unfortunately not the first, Frances, who was born sometime late in 1856.

Somehow just going at it from a different angle got me what I wanted (mostly!).

.... and the 6th! Found the final birth record by going through page by page of Massachusetts birth records. You should see how the last name is written - no wonder I couldn't search on it!

Perhaps the same problem exists with the census records.....

Thanks for your help, just wanted to let you know that I'd found them all!
