Searching for McCullough in Belfast
« on: Tuesday 17 May 05 15:57 BST (UK) »
Any advice on how to use PRONI.  I have an approx date of death of my great grandfather, so how do I get a death certificate?
I don't know the date of death of great grandmother.  Would I be able to find that out through the church records?  Is there any way to obtain a 1901 census for Belfast?

Thanks,
Terry-Lynn

Hi there,
I think your best thing to do would be to contact Brian Watson at : http://www.familyulster.com/ .
For a very modest fee, he would be able to supply the details you require.Just email him with the details you have and he will give you an idea of the cost to find the info you want.

Thank you OTTO.  I have been searching everywhere for a 1901 census and you finally pointed me in the right direction.  Much appreciated.

Hi Terry-Lynn. Could you give us a name & a year to work on so we can help you with you research.

If you apply to the GRO and you give them a year let say 1886 they will search from 1884 to 1888 for you, so they will have searched for 5 years.

The GRO will do a search only for £5 if they find anything you pay £5 more to get the Certificate.

Terry-Lynn, I have Belfast  Street Directories for,

1852/1870/1896/1900/1949/1962/1973

But i must tell you there are a lot of McCullough's in Belfast so give us a name and I will have a wee search for you.

Hi Anthony,
My great grandparents were John and Martha McCullough and they lived at 4 Witham Street, Belfast from around 1890 to 1920's when the house went to their son Charles and wife until 1960.
I received a little info on them, showing their age as 63 and 62 in 1901 and that they were both born in County Down.  I believe Martha's maiden name was Beaumont.  I cannot locate any more Beaumont's in County Down and I cannot locate the birth of John in any on-line records so I don't know their parents names which means I am stuck here.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Audrey,
Yes I already had that info from the free family search at the LDS website.  That's how I found the "Beaumont" which doesn't seem to be a typically Irish name.   All of their kids are on the LDS website, but not the parents, just their names.  So that's as far as I can get on that site too.

Thanks for your help though.

Terry-Lynn :)
