On Philip and Sarah's info for district of Kilsyth Stirlingshire I found her listed as Sarah "Black" ???
I know it is one and the same as the children match up but why would it have McLauchlan on certificate? This is the first I have come across this surname and there are none in my tree. :-\
Even using this name I can't find any reference to a marriage in Co Donegal in 1871 at all.
"On Philip and Sarah's info for district of Kilsyth" what info?
"but why would it have McLauchlan on certificate?" what certificate?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Jump on 8 months...Philip & Sarah are listed on records taken from Kilsyth census listings.
Here it is noted on record that Philip married Sarah (correct!) BLACK?? and children are one and the same as Sarah McLauchan....weird.
It is stated on my grandmothers ceritficate maiden name mclauchlan too and on other siblings of her's I found.
Still no further forward and still no marriage certificate for them both on 25/02/1871 Donegal Ireland

i came across this situation with one of my ancestors his children sometimes recorded in wifes maiden name and her former marriage name, her being a widow when he married her.She married my ancester in her widows name but used both names on her childrens birth certs, very confusing.

update:

I have their deaths now but not worked out why she would have used all the different surnames.
So its back to Ireland to look for birth certificates. Thanks all for your help.

What birth certificates? civil registration of births in Ireland started in 1864 (as I mentioned in reply #1 in April 2012).

My apologies. I forgot and I realised this after I started searching.
