The death certificate will list cause of death which should confirm or rule out whether cause of death was associated with childbirth. I think the 1924 date means you'll have to order the certificate rather than download and view on Scotland's People website but I'm sure there will be someone here who can give more exact advice.

Hi

Her death cert lists  these as cause of death~

Obstructed Labour
Contracted Pelvis
Caesarian Section
Peritonitis
Paralytic Ileus

Poor lass - she was only 17

No mention of a Gray birth in the Banff district in 1924

PS I used to work with Obs and Gynae records at Aberdeen  and I feel that a child would be unlikely to have survived if the mother had suffered these conditions. The fetal distress would have been considerable.

Just to add that the restrictions on online records  on SP are:

Births - 100 years
Marriages - 75 years
Deaths - 50 years

A further year is released each year.

Records can be ordered up to 2009 or viewed at major Records Offices in Scotland.

Thanks, gnu. I couldn't remember the exact dates and didn't want to post the wrong details.

Not necessarily - only if the baby lived.  Stillbirth registrations began in Scotland in 1939, I think:

Quote
How do I obtain an extract from an entry in the Register of Still-Births?
Extracts of still-birth records from 1939 onwards are available from National Records of  Scotland for a fee. Due to the sensitive nature of still-birth registrations, these extracts are usually only issued to the parents of the still-born child.  However, siblings of still-born children may apply, either with the express consent of a parent, or on their own behalf, where they can demonstrate that their parents are no longer alive.

As I said, there isn't a Gray birth registration in either the Banff district  or the home district in 1924.

Just did a search on deaths in case the child survived  and then died later but there is nothing in 1924.

Hospital records might have survived but, if my experience is anything to go on, the records from 1924 are unlikely to be available and they would be subject to various medical confidentiality restrictions, I  would say.

Sorry - I forgot to mention possible burial records for Donaldina - either just a burial or a Monumental Inscription.  it might have some clues.
