Telephone directories
« on: Friday 06 April 12 23:39 BST (UK) »
Are there any telephone directories available to view online for the 1950's.   I'm looking for an Alexander MacGregor.

He died at the Mannin Infirmary, Braddan in 1956 aged 80.

Many thanks if anyone can help

Evelyn

Are you sure about his age?

Lawsons BMD site (http://www.iomfhs.im/lawsons/LawsonBMD) has this under burials:

MacGregor, Alexander  23 April 1956  age 60  Braddan
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Yes.  That was a mistake on their records which should have been amended,   They checked all this out and admoitted their mistake.   I have  his death certificate and he was definitely 80.  Born in 1875 , died 1956.

They obviously haven't amended their details

domestic telephones were very rare until late 1960's early 70's - given he died in what was still regarded as the poorhouse at the time seems unlikely he would have a phone - the Manx museum library[Replace with AT symbol]mnh.gov.im has a collection but thought available via some ancestry subscription
any thing with a Manx Connection
