All,
I have added a couple of additional parts of Ray Longs Cosford database to the history of suffolk site:
http://historyofsuffolk.co.uk    aka   http://www.suffolksurnames.co.uk

One day, if people are agreeable I will start updates. I look forward to this.

Please note: a web designer is working on MY website, the Suffolk Surnames List and it will be on line very soon.

She is also the web master of the SLHC website.

The late Ray Long's family are not in agreement with the above mentioned  new Cosford Database.

Pat,
With due deference I have decided to remove the Cosford database from my pages. It is a great resource, and good luck with bringing Rays database back to life at some stage. I still have a local copy, and this is how it will stay.
I will continue to add updates to the UK pub history site I run; as I have long lost any interest in researching Suffolk and my immediate ancestors whom came from here.
RIP Mr Ray Long, and thanks for all the help in the past - top bloke.

Hi Sarah

The Cosford Database is being resurrected by the Essex Family History Society (as per my recent post on the main Suffolk board).   Part of it is now working again.

Here is the link:  http://suffolksurnames.co.uk/cosford/

I don't think you'll find this is anything to do with the Essex Family History Society.

However, it's nice to see at least part of the database more easily available.

When I discovered the resurrected part of the Cosford Database I emailed the contact shown,  because I was so delighted to find Ray Long's work back in the public domain after all this time.  The reply I received was quite detailed and included the explanation that members of the Essex Family History Society had  put the database together via web based archives.

To be frank, I don't really care who put it together - the fact that at least some of Ray Long's work is now available once more is brilliant and I am delighted.  It was out of action for too long!
