Deface Family Bible?
« on: Tuesday 17 May 05 22:19 BST (UK) »
I have my grandparents family Bible in which they record their marriage and the births of their children. I am tempted to add later generations.
Part of me says this is adding value to it for future generations, another part of me says I cannot deface my grandparents Bible.

Any views?

Hi Lyndon,

I think if there is room this is a lovely idea to pass on to your children. In your best handwriting please, then future researchers can make out the names correctly  ;D

Perhaps a family bible of your own is the answer  :)

Lyndon,

Don't worry about defacing your family bible, becasue you won't be doing, it is probably the most permanent place you can record your family, right there in your family bible. You can also put in certificates and photographs in between the leaves of the pages too.

Hi Lyndon

I have my grandmother's diary, but I couldn't hope to match her copperplate writing so decided to insert a loose sheet. I think writing in the bible would have been better & I may yet find a scribe to do it for me - meanwhile I think my loose page is fairly safe there.

Thanks everyone. I will get my book on calligraphy off the shelf, and start practicing again. It's been a long time since I've done any copperplate, but it will be worth brushing up my skills. You have given me the courage to go ahead. Thanks.
