Elizabeth Dent (previously Strong, nee Bell) b 1826 Durham
« on: Sunday 08 April 12 19:02 BST (UK) »
Hi,

It has been a long time since I've been on here so hope I'll be forgiven for only coming on when I need help!

Tracing the family back, I've hit a major problem with the above named lady who is my 3rd gt-grandmother. From her son's birth certificate, registered 18/10/1852, I have discovered she was born as Bell, must have then married and was known as Strong, before finally marrying my 3rd gt-gfr John Dent. I have tried to trace both of her marriages but have drawn complete blanks. I can't even find either Elizabeth or her husband on the 1851 census for Gateshead but know they were living at Brunswick Terrace in 1852. I have also drawn blanks on their deaths too. John Dent was described as a land agent.

If anyone can be of any help and point me in some direction, I would be most grateful.

Thanks

There's a John DENT, occupation Land Agent, in Whickham in 1851

HO107/2403/13/19

He's single and a visitor, born c1819 in Gainford.

Head of household is Mary HUTT, aged 60, described as Dowager Countess of Strathmore (though she says she's married), also born in Gainford

Let me know if you need details

Thanks for that info re John Dent on 1851 census. Have added it to tree on ancestry. Looks like he is unmarried at this point, doesn't it? What do you know about what a land agent would have done at this time and why he would be there - any ideas???? Thanks
