Marriage of John Aldridge and Mary Ann c1865 - any ideas???
« on: Sunday 08 April 12 19:24 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace more info about the above named who were my 2nd gt grandparents. I know John was christened at M'cr cathedral on 18/7/1847 and that he then appears on census of 1851, 61 and 71 before he disappears to some extent. He is named on the marriage certificate of one of his daughters, Annie Aldridge b1873 and married in 1891, but is listed as deceased. I am struggling to find any record of either his marriage or death. Ditto his wife Mary Ann.

In the 1871 census, John was listed as married and the family were living at 22 Miller St in the cellar(???), in the parish of St Michaels, Manchester. At this time, the family consisted of John and Mary and their elder daughter Alice Ann b1867 but who died after the census collection date in 1871.

I would be very grateful if anyone could help with any ideas as to where I can look to get more info.

Thanks!

In the 1871 census, John was listed as married and the family were living at 22 Miller St in the cellar(???), in the parish of St Michaels, Manchester.

Miller Street formed one side of the area known as Angel Meadow. There was an archaeological dig in 2009 on Miller Street.

Thanks for the replies everybody!

I decided last night to order Alice Ann's birth certificate to see what info I can get. I do have Annie's but that wasn't much help.....The marriage cert for WH Gregory and Annie Aldridge did throw up that bit about the witness but I believe it to be a red herring. How can I find out where WHG and Annie are buried? I assume they are buried in M'cr - both died at Bridge St not long after WW2. My dad can vaguely remember them visiting him and his mother at the start of the war but his father had already gone off to fight. All he can remember was them giving him a shiny shilling!! There seems to have been very little family communication.

The info about Miller St is very interesting, if somewhat depressing. I remember seeing the bit about the excavations on North West news at the time.

Thanks again for your help.

There are burials for a William and Annie Gregory about the right time in Gorton.
I haven't checked other burials here: Manchester records
