 Dear flinders,

I spent his morning researching Luiza and found her and family on 1851 census, do you have this information already, if not I will post again and give details.

John and Luiza were married on 4/10/1841 in St Helier marriage conducted  by  Rector Francois Jeune ( St Helier Marriages 1837-1842 ref 20/430/13 )
At the time of the marriage the information given  states Luiza was born in Madeira ,daughter of Amara Taxira de Nobriga a wine merchant.
Three daughters all born  earlier in Madeira were recognized at the time of marriage for the purpose of inheritance.
These  were  Corzina born April 1836 and twins Eliza Sophia & Sophia Eliza born 15/11/1838.

Hope this is of help let me know if you would like any other information.

Scatty you are wonderful

I have passed this information on to my friend who I am helping - she will be blown away

the young Gregory becomes the Flinders Cricket Club treasurer from 1878 to 1908 when he dies - I am researching the Club history and he stands out
so desperatly want to get a picture - doing it 5 years now

the family way suppose to have come to Australian 1846 when he was 6 but your information tells us something different - is there any records for them leaving

Thanks Flinders

Just seen this - to track down the date you ancestors went to Australia, there is an excellent book "Guernsey Emigrants to Austalia 1828-1899" by David Kreckler, which lists all known Guernsey people who emigrated there. It is compiled from all sorts of records from Guernsey and Australia. Even though your Day family went via Jersey, if some of them were born in Guernsey, they could well have picked them up.

Are they any connection with the sea captain, Clement Day? He was one of the master mariners who sailed people down under, and definitely featured in the book.

I am afraid I am travelling right now, so can't check for you in my own copy - but if you email me a reminder, I'll have a look when I get home. Unless anyone else out there has a copy?
