WW1 service records can be obtained without visiting Archives. If you request the record Archives will digitise it and attach a link to the individual's index entry, and the record can then be downloaded from the internet. It takes about ten days after the request is made for the link to appear.

Probate records do require a peronal visit.

I work in central wellington so I am able to visit Archives.

Providing links to digitised WW1 records is Archives normal way of handling requests for WW1 records. I have obtained such records several times this way without any problem. You may need to sign up online as an Archives reader before you can order the record online.

Hi

Thanks for the info, as I'm in Australia, I'm not sure they will help, but will email them and try.  kglm, would be great if you could get me the probate, it would be appreciated.

I just looked at Archives website. It looks like you need to go in to their office in order to register as a reader, and you can only order documents if you are a registered reader. I am registered as a reader. I will try to get the probate when I can - no promises on how long this might take - maybe next week. I could also order WW1 records, which when put on line anyone will have direct access to.

P.S. I can photograph the probate records in the reading room, and email photos to you if you let me have your email address by PM.

Hi althea and kglm

I have received an email back from the Archway in regards to the having the files that I have requested to be digitised. They have said that they are willing to digitise the files at the cost of $25.00 each, and that once the payment is received the standard turnaround time is 15 working days subject to demand.
