Cecilia Poney - Hazelbrae, Canada - 1907
« on: Thursday 12 April 12 18:23 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am looking for a Cecilia Poney who travelled from Liverpool in 1907 with Barnardo's to Hazelbrae. She travelled over on the SS Dominion. Cecilia was born in London 1893 to Cecilia Sarah Parker and William Matthew Poney. Cecilia Sarah Parker died in child birth.

I have found her on the 1911 census but am unable to locate her after this point.

I am interested in finding out if she married and had children and where she eventually passed away.

Dani

If she did not marry before privacy laws cut off the date of viewing the information, the best we might do is tell you to be patient & wait ...the next census will be out, although not transcribed, soon...
I did see one married in the U.S. of similar age,  but her parents do not match....and although this has happened in the past, she was older at the time of immigration and so likely knew her parent's names and was hopefully old enough not to play games on documents. ( added, now see her on census of 1910 so that one is accounted for)

am adding the 1911 norfolk census ( always good to post for others searching) where she is a domestic in the household of William Tibbets from Madeira, Portugal ( Cudos to the transcriber as I thought it said Gibbets)

Good grief, she was one of 349 children sent on that ship...

Hi,

Thank you for looking, I found her on the 1911 census but I couldn't work out where the Tibbetts where from.

Where in Peterborough is the Memorial for Hazelbrae and do the original buildings still stand?

Is there any books or documentaries that you know off as i cant seem to find much information on the place.

Thanks

Dani

Hi,

The original buildings are no longer there.

Here is the location of the plaque (W on the list and map).  If you click on it, you can see an image of the plaque.

This might be informative too:

There is a memorial group - they may be able to help with your questions.

Hello Dani, welcome to rootschat sorry I missed that you were brand new. I posted a link to the census as that what you'll need to do if you already have the information, we like to have what is found posted for others searching...
Here is a bit on Hazel Brae ( Hazelbrae) Home in case you hadn't found it in the resources... there are a few stories at the bottom of page...

Resurrection of this post as I was mooching about looking for a Tibbets/Tibbetts thread and found this.

I have detail on William Tibbetts who passed through Madeira if it is still of interest, he is on my partner’s tree. He’s from Edinburgh.
