Good morning    Philip Clark  who married Mary Machin Staffell was married before to Martha Avery.  There are documents up to 1812 about Martha Avery and an annuitie.  I believe this Philip is the son of Philip and Mercy.
I do not know the maiden name of John's wife  not sure about Mary  Edmund John's mother was Elizabeth.  No idea place or date.    No marriage for Edmund John Clark either.   Thanks for Interest.  LizR

I will have to dig out my notes on this one.  I didn't think Philip married Martha Avery until 1786.  It was in Sussex.  in 1792 British Directory Philip is a Mate on the Stag cutter presumably a revenue boat.  I think he marries Mary Machin Staffell in 1788.  Their baptisms are hard to pick out of the philip and Marys.  Philip Clark the Elder had a large number of grandsons named Philip.  So appreciate your help.  I didn't have any evidence of Quaker connections til now.  Googled Monthy meeting Poole and found their library is for sale.  List of all the books with descriptions and flyleaf inscriptions.  only 2100 pounds   :o  Thanks again   LizR

No.  She possibly might be buried at Cranbrook.  The inscription is very hard to read in the photo.  Too many John Clarks getting married in the 1790's in SFHG to sort?????
You are very helpful.  Thank you for helping.     Does the SFHG have any indexes to Archdeanery of Lewes wills.  Only Philip Clark the elder has a Canterbury PCC will in 1806.  This John died in 1849 and his brother Henry died May 18, 1832 in a carriage accident.  there was a coroners inquest and a note in the sexton's books     LizR

Such an odd name isn't it?  Among all the Thomases, johns, Edward etc.    One of my main points connecting mary Clark to Dover Clarks.  Archer is her grandmothers maiden name.  Good to see this all.   The Thomas of 1797 could be Thomas Staffell Clark of 1808.   Never saw it before since I was assuming He started life as a Stafffell.   Thanks for your help.   Been looking for john outside of Sussex.    LizR

Hi Liz,

It doesn't say anything other than " Thomas son of Henry and Mary Clark of the Parish of Rye in the County of Sussex was born on 6th April 1797 and christened on 7th June 1797 by Thos. Tattersall. "  Registered 30th Nov 1803 by me John Aikenhead.

This is the entry in the 1805-1837 circuit registers for births at the Wesleyan Chapel in Rye.
