Doran-Powers County Carlow
« on: Saturday 14 April 12 17:36 BST (UK) »
Edward Doran was born between 1794 and 1800 in County Carlow on the Wicklow border.  He married Anna Powers- also from County Carlow.  They had a son Michael Doran born 1830 in Carlow and  moved to Canada shortly after.  Can anyone help me with these families? I have not been able to locate the town or parish.
Thank you.

Unfortunately you need a more exact location than just the county to start a search, especially with such early dates as in this case. Very few parishes have records going back this far. Do you know what denomination your Doran/Powers family were ?

If your Doran/Power family were RC then there are 6 parishes which fit your clue re bordering Co. Wicklow :

Rathvilly, Hacketstown, Clonmore, Tullow, Ballon and Clonegal

None of these are available online at the moment, but records for two of the parishes i.e. Hacketstown and Clonegal seem to have been filmed by LDS, so should be available to view in an LDS Family history library.

Hacketstown parish include baptisms back before 1830, so might be worth checking for a baptism for Michael.
