RAF discharge
« on: Saturday 14 April 12 20:09 BST (UK) »
I have in the family a great grandfather who served as an aircraftsman 2 in the RAF and was discharged in 1942 under 'Clause 22'. Please does anyone know what a Clause 22 discharge was?  Thanks. Cynfran.

Is there a letter in brackets after the 22? Clause 22 indicates that "Services no longer required". The sub-clause would be indicated by the letter to give more detail as to why he was no longer required.

a) if attestation is not finally approved
b) If found unsuitable in the first three months of service
c) having being declared a deserter
d) in other circumstances

Thanks for that Sheldonesque. His service record shows that he was enlisted into the reserve on 21st August 1939 and written next to that is just 'dis 6/1/42 Clause 22'.
