Hi Nanny Jan

With regards to your kind offer on WW2 bombers

I have been trying to discover more about my father.

I intend to get his flying records but at present I am abroad for the next 5 months and having problems getting all the necessary documentation together.

I have no specific questions to ask you re; your offer but would be glad if you could comment on anything to do with the information contained in this link that, as far as I can tell, details my fathers  time in the air force.

Hi,

I've checked the index in The Bomber Command Diaries 1939-1945 and there is no listing for him in "personnel".   It is an operational reference book and mainly lists bombing raids, type and number of aircraft taking part, etc.

Sorry I can't be of much help;  if you discover that he took part in any bombing raids let me have the details and I'll see what I can find.

I have the book because it was left to my father when one of his friends (ex RAF) died; I have no experience in researching RAF crew.

Thanks for your quick response Nanny Jan. :)

You say 'I have no experience in researching RAF crew' I have very little experience at family research of any shape or form either, but, believe that one never knows unless one asks, hence my post.
My last surviving uncle told me that he thought  my father may have been a 'ferry pilot'.

The only RAF crew I've researched is my uncle who was shot down in 1944;  my father had most of the details including his medals, but not his log book.  Dad sent for his brother's records a few years ago; lots of RAF abbreviations    ::)    but it did chart his progress until killed over France.  A long wait but Dad thought it worthwhile to get them.

Let's hope there's lots of details when you finally get your father's service record.
