daly from cappanlug.
« on: Sunday 15 April 12 14:17 BST (UK) »
Hi there, trying to find info on a Richard Daly who, I think, married Catherine  Molloy approx 1830-40.

Their son Patrick Daly lived in Cappanlug near Clonaslee town in 1901 census. Patrick married Bridget Conroy from Cush Lower (I think).

But I'm trying to trace his parents whereabouts in the mid-1800s. There is a Daly on MainSt Clonaslee in Griffiths valuation but not sure if they are related?

Any of these names ring any bells around Clonaslee, Cush or cappanlug? Any info or leads on any of the names much appreciated.
Thanks a mil. BigEB.

Hi
My Daly family is from clonaslee.  Luke Daly was married to Anne Williams and his brother Patrick Daly was married to Catherine Nolan.  Luke's son Thomas married Honora Conroy.  Honora was the daughter of John Conroy and Bridget Brophy.  Do any of these names ring a bell??

Hi marthaR and thanks for response. I'm sure they are related somehow. I've seen luke daly's name before. I might be looking for his brother Patrick. My Patrick daly married a Bridget Dunne who died a few years later. He remarried a bridget Conroy from Cush. Still looking I think but I might be back to you again. Thanks, bigeb.

There are 2 Luke Daly's in the Clonaslee area.
Lukes brother Patrick was married to Catherine Nolan (sometimes spelled Nowlan).
The Conroy name is very common in that area and there were several families - Im sure they were somehow all related.

Thanks jack. Your last entry, Richard son of Patrick and Bridget, is the correct family. This Bridget died and Patrick then re-married Bridget Conroy and had 8 more kids. The headstones are a generation later, possibly the same family. Luke daly is adifferent family or different side of family. The common names in mine are richard, felix and hugh. Also cappanlug seems to be the homestead rather than coolagh. (are they near each other??). I will contact Clonaslee parish and see where the older generation are buried. Thanks again. Bigeb.

I think is the townland being referred to on the 1901 census return for Patrick Daly (see link) :

  Townland: Cappanlug
  Acres : 151
  Civil Parish : Castlebrack
  Barony : Tinnahinch
  Poor Law Union : Mountmellick
  County : Queen's Co.

also shown on the 1st Ed. OSI map : Cappanlug townland
