Handley is a small village two miles or less from ASHOVER...........and a couple of miles the other way from Clay Cross and Staveley.

William Bunting BAPTISED 13.05.1832 son of William and Hannah..you'll find an awful lot of Buntings at Ashover.

Bear in mind Pr's give Baptisms..so he could very easily have been born in 1831..as one of the Censuses mentioned above..."William bunting Ashover 1831"

I understand what ye are saying Derek, but at his marriage to Sarah Barton their father's are given as Job Bunting/George Barton.

Thanks Carol.

Anything on Mary WOOD would be gratefully accepted.

I am surprised there is nothing on the three marriages as all births etc took place in Ashover. That being the births on the Bunting side, so perhaps the three females were from neighbouring parishes and the weddings took place there?

I will look at the map and start trawling through the closest places to Ashover.

Many thanks for your time.

Mark.

Hi Mark

I have already checked a few of the neighbouring parishes for you, Matlock, North Wingfield & Bakewell.

My own Bunting line has been a nightmare to trace as there are so many Buntings around those areas.

Anyway back to business

Mary Wood bapt 9.5. 1762 to Adam & Hannah Wood, Ashover
Adam Wood married Hanna Peat 13.12. 1745, Ashover
Hannah Wood buried 5.1. 1785 wife of Adam
Adam Wood buried 21.11. 1797 aged 74 abode Northedge

The only baptism I can see is this one, but the burial date doesn't quite fit

Adam Wood bapt 9.10.1720 to Adam & Mary

This information is from a transcript of Ashover records that has been put on to CD.   I have noticed in the past (with my own lines) that some of the information is missing from some of the CD's I have and have checked the original records at the Records office and have found the information I was looking for.  It depends on whether the information was taken from the PR's or BT's.  It is always worth checking both.

Many thanks to both of ye.

It is very frustrating that I can find nothing re the three marriages of the two Benjy's and Obediah. On the IGI there is plenty of info on the children but nothing re the marriages. Is it not ironic that when you come up with an 'Obediah' ther's no info !!!!!!!

I have found other info on a personal FT but as Derek has mentioned before....IGNORE IT !!!!! And I can see why.

Okay, I shall press on gently....

Mark.

Hi Mark

I noticed on one of the tree's to be ignored that someone has Obadiah's father as John Bunting.   There is a Will for a John Bunting of Ashover dated 1667 so maybe that may give some clues.   There is also a letter of Administration for Obadiah dated 1700 along with an inventory of goods.

Derbyshire Wills for around that time are kept at Lichfield RO, but can be ordered online up to 1730 at the moment.

Yes, I noticed the 'will' but disregarded the info.

I will investigate the John Bunting and Elizabeth Mower/Bower link via the will and see what it turns up.

Regards,

Mark.
