Appleton baps 1876-79 TRINDER (at BRO)
« on: Monday 16 April 12 03:00 BST (UK) »
Hello Berkshire people :)

Please could sks have a look at this (mistakenly posted on Oxfordshire Lookups :P).  Unfortunately some of my rellies chose an untranscribed parish for their life events, and there's no way I can get to Reading in the near future :(

Thanks in anticipation,
Carol (former Reading resident)

Hi again :D

Still stuck on this one and hoping for a lookup.  Could someone confirm that these records are held at BRO, and I'm not barking up the wrong tree :-\

Thanks in anticipation,

Nigel, I'm surprised at you :o - conspiring to commit criminal acts, whatever next ;) - tempting thought though..................................... 8)

I'm looking for TRINDER baptisms in Appleton following the 1873 marriage of Thomas TRINDER and Susannah HARPER, and anything on the HARPER family in and around Appleton.  (Thomas came from Cumnor and has been much easier to research.)

Thanks for your interest and support :D

Hi again,

I'm no further forward with this, but not giving up yet :D

Please, if anyone's planning a visit to BRO in the foreseeable future, could you have a look at Appleton PRs for me?  There's no way I can get there this year and I've lost touch with my old Reading contacts :'(

Any help gratefully received,
Carol

You don't need to come to Reading, the LDS has a filmed copy of the Appleton registers - so you can view them at any of their Family History centres. If you came to Reading you will be looking at copies of the same film.

Sorry if I seem a bit thick, but I've spent many hours poking about on various LDS sites without finding anything useful.  The reason appears to be that the CofE Diocese of Oxford won't let the Mormons copy their PRs.  Does that ruling apply to the ex-Berks parishes?

More dim questions (as my nearest LDS centre is too far away for wasted journeys); do I have to pre-order the film, would I need to quote a reference, and do they charge much?

Apologies again for my ignorance, but this will be the first time I've dealt with them ::)

The LDS filmed almost all the Berkshire PRs - presumably before the Diocese was aware of it.  The films used in the BRO are mainly from the LDS.

You would need to pre-order the film(s) - you can find them on the library catalogue on the familysearch site. There are three films covering the Appelton PRs.

I'd call the FHC you intend to use (they may well only answer the phone during opening hours) and check the procedure and cost.

Thanks newburychap for your concise and helpful reply :)

I now more feel confident about contacting the Ipswich centre, which I intend to do on Thursday.

All the best,
Carol
