Plasberllan Llanfyndd

Please does anyone know if Plasberllan is the name of a place or or a farm in Llanfyndd Carmarthen? An ancestor was living there in 1861,and his occupation was given as Farmer 20 acres,Iwonder if he was a tenant farmer as I know that Plas means manor, although I am not sure what berllan means,if there are any Welsh speakers out there I would be grateful for a translation, any help would be wonderfull,as I am stumped,Thanks a lot Bethan

Berllan means 'orchard' Bethan. It certainly sounds like a farm to me. Have you thought of looking at an ordnance survey map (sheet  159, I think) I'm afraid I can't find mine at the moment, there are many farms on those maps.

Thaks a lot Eleri,I am afraid that  I do not have acess to any maps of Carmarthen, but the translation helps ,I think it confirms my belief that this is a farm, probably a tenant farm to some long destroyed manor,Thanks again Bethan

You could try www.old-maps.co.uk - if you haven't already.  I particularly recommend the address search function.
