Albert Toyer 1869-1945

Morning all,

A bit of help with this would be amazing if anyone can. I have my great great grandfather Albert Toyer married to Elizabeth Jane Odell but on the 1901 census the children are all showing as Odell and not Toyer. I've found one of the children Jenney Odell on the 1891 census as a grandaughter of Emma Odell and there is also Elizabeth Odell who is showing as single.
I'm not sure how to find out more. My theories at the moment are that Jenney is Elizabeth's illegitimate daughter or that Emma Odell had another daughter and perhaps Elizabeth took on her children. The other children all change surnames to Toyer on the next census apart from Florence Annie Odell and Jenney/Jennie Odell.

the sister theory is rapidly going out of the window! It appears that Elizabeth was an only child.

thought I would look at this differently
I note that on the 1911 census gives married 14years also states one daughter 1893 name of mothers surname you have given as adopted to head of house your man albert
I am sorry I can not give you full info due to copyright laws on the 1911 census.
Do you have their marriage certificate?

Odd that your man is not on any other census 1871 or 1881 or am I just missing him

I missed that on the 1911 census! Thank you for pointing it out to me. I have found a marriage for Jennie Odell in 1911 so that explains why she's missing from that one.

Albert is on 1881 census as son of Edwin and Milly Toyer, living in Caddington and working as a servant

Can see him on 1871  1574/98/22 and  as you said on 1881 aged year given on both census 1866 with his parents

1901 census has mother-in-law Emma Odell living with Albert & Elizabeth! And Jenny!!

I can't find a marriage either and Odell does seem to be Elizabeth's maiden name. She appears on the census as Elizabeth Jane Odell from a young girl until she appears as Elizabeth Jane Toyer with her mother living with them.
Maybe she didnt marry Albert officially.
