Italian POW camps
« on: Wednesday 18 April 12 21:35 BST (UK) »
A relative of mine served in the Royal Artillery in WW2. He was attached to The 8th Army and spent the war in the Middle East. Towards the end of his service he was guarding Italian prisoners. I believe the Camp was CRS 382 POW Camp. Any ideas where I can get further information on where this was and what CRS stands for?
I do have his service number but no specifics on the regiment.

Can't explain the CRS but 382 POW Camp is refered to in three Files at KEW.

WO 177/1854 which is 382 Medical Section.
WO 169/21472 and WO 169/24158.

These are Middle East Files.
Prisoners of War. North Africa,Italy and Germany

Usually, in POW camp parlance, CRS meant Camp Reception Station. It was the official name for a camp's medical centre/building(s).

I'd never expected it, but idly putting 382 pow camp into Google generated this as the first hit:

Thankyou to all of you. The relative I referred to was my Father. Until now I had no knowledge what country this camp was in. The last message from GrahamSimons was a major surprise as it showed Christmas dinner in 3 photographs. In all 3 was my Father and his name listed on the attendees list. So grateful
