Help to find info re: my granddad, WWII Navy

Hello all,
This is my first time using rootschat.  I am hoping you can help me track down some info about my granddad. What I know is very basis but you have to start somewhere so here goes:-
- He was born in Herefordshire
- He was in the Navy during WWII
- I recall him talking about being stationed in Napels, Malta, Italy, Africa......
- He was on a Minesweeper called the Gilstone?  I have looked on a number of Royal Navy and naval website but can't find this vessel listed anywhere.
- There are no listings in his name on in the military searches on Ancestry.com

Fingers crossed that someone can offer a slither of info that can point me in another direction

The ship you are probably looking for is the minesweeping trawler HMS Gillstone (note the two Ls).

try www.warshipsww2.eu   then go to Isles class, A pic of T355 which is the same class as your T359 HMS Gillstone

or just google hms Gillstone scroll down until you see the above website and when selected go to Isles Class in the menu on the left.
