Port Hill Burial Ground, Hertford
« on: Saturday 21 April 12 08:19 BST (UK) »
Hi

Is there anyone who would be prepared to visit the Friends Burial Ground at Port Hill, Hertford, and look for any graves in the surname Weston? Particularly interested in Lewis (bur 1783) and his wife Judith (bur 1800) but I believe other family members may be buried there too.

Would love photos!

Thanks in advance

Hi Dave,

I located the Burial Ground in Port Hill, Hertford and found that it had not been used for some time and had in fact been cleared and the ground had reverted to its natural habitat.    I was informed that any headstones would have been removed and placed in the garden of the Friends Meeting House in Railway Street, Hertford.   I will make a visit  on the next open day and look for any Weston headstones.
The Register of Burials has been deposited at the Hertfordshire Record Office and I will search on my next visit.

Regards   ...   Peter

Peter

Thank you for that!

I am forever finding burial grounds of all sorts having been cleared, although it is nice to know that in this case the headstones may be preserved!

Any photos of Weston stones would be greatly appreciated :)

Regards

Dave

Hi Dave,

I searched the Burial Register and found three entries for the Weston family, the third being for Daniel WESTON, the son of Lewis of Wapping, Middlesex who died 01May1780 aged 24 and buried at Hertford on 10May1780. He was not a Member of the Society.
The entry for Lewis records him as 'late London, citizen and cooper since Walthamstow, Essex'.

Look out for PM.
