Alexander McLennan and Mary Milligane

I have been given some information regarding the above possibly being the mother and father of my great grandfather John MacClelland but I am finding it hard to confirm this as I cannot find his birth.  Does anyone have information on this couple.  My g grandfather moved to Wales although shown to be born in Penninghame, I thought in 1871 but perhaps slightly earlier.  Any help would be much apprciated.

There is a clear entry on Family Search.

John McLellan born 28th April 1868 son of Alexander McLellan and Mary Milligan. Trouble is that there are quite a few others of similar name around that time in Penningham too!

It also mentions an entry on the 1901 Census at Newport, Monmouthshire.
