Another Troublesome Jones!
« on: Monday 23 April 12 10:34 BST (UK) »
Jonathan Jones is listed in the 1851 Census on Ancestry as born in c 1839 in Ruabon the son of a Robert Jones a Carrier and his Wife Jane(Nee Gabriel).-HO107/2503/136/31.

He is listed as a Forgeman.I have my doubts about his age seeing the actual entry in 1851 given my search for later info for him.Now ideally anywhere else in the country you would try and find the 1841 entry for the family but this is not possible as the 1841 Census for the area is missing.

Looking for further info I am strongly drawn to the 1871 Census entry which shows a Jonathan Jones(Occupation Puddler) born in Cefn Mawr in c 1835 living in Cefn Bychan with his wife Elizabeth also given as born in Cefn Mawr in c 1835.They are showing with children,Thomas(c 1856),Mary A(c1859),Edward(c 1862),Elizabeth(c 1864),Miriam(c 1867) and Jonathan given as 11 months old.All children also show as born in Cefn Mawr.-RG10/5652/101/9.Again though I can't find this corresponding family in 1861.

I am looking at a possible marriage for Jonathan and Elizabeth at Ruabon St Mary in 1853,Jonathan Jones and Elizabeth Davies.Whilst I will add this marriage to my now growing list of to look up at the A N Palmer Museum at Wrexham later this week,I welcome anyone's views on all this, especially an opinion on Jonathan's age in 1851.

Regards
William Russell Jones.

For what it's worth I see his age as 12 in 1851.

Marriage December 5th 1853 Jonathan Jones 22 ba  Puddler of Cefn Mawr - father Thomas Jones, collier
Elizabeth Davies spinster of Cefn Mawr - father Thomas Davies, collier
witnesses Edward James & Margaret Tudor.

This would make his birth 1830/31.

Added: another marriage in 1856 in Rhosllanerechog is of Jonathan Jones age 20 a collier of Rhos son of Edward Jones and Margaret Phillips age 20 of Rhos dau of Joseph Phillips - both fathers were colliers.

Many thanks for  your reply.I've looked again and he may have died in 1855.
