Help identify uniform ww2 - complete
« on: Tuesday 24 April 12 15:23 BST (UK) »
I’m was going thought some family photos and found a photo of some men in army uniform, I know my granddad was in the pioneer corps and none of my Nans family were in the army as they were as there were coal miners. But my Nan got pregnant by an American service man during ww2 could any of these man be American?

The back of the photo says Cooke town Co Tyrone NI.

I’ve tried to look up ww2 uniforms with not much look any help in identifying the uniforms would be great.

Thanks

Hi there

Not well up on uniforms but I would say that the guy on the right and the
one sitting down are Yanks. On the arm of the guy on the right there is
a emblem which looks white, thats something I am sure people come on
and tell us what it is, but thats on the US uniform
The guy sitting down has what looks like a kakhi shirt with a lighter tie
and its a pity his hat covers the shoulder so we cant see the white emblem
on his arm. They had a peaked cap and that looks pointed to me on both
of the guys lapels.  To me they look slick and thats what the girls over here liked
about the Yanks I would say they are American.

I'd say they were Brits, that awful trouser pocket over the crease that later went round to the side.  The one on the right looks like RAF with RAF emblem on the top of the arm and the 2 bladed propeller of a Leading Aircraftman further down the arm.  The one in front has certainly been at the Brylcreem (ask your Grandad!).  MaxD

All three are wearing British 1940 pattern battledress blouses, the blancoed belts could be 1937 pattern.
