Can you get hold of Amy's birth cert - it's a less 'common' name that the others on the 1871? This would give us info about Catherine.

William - no, I haven't got that birth certificate yet, but I think I'll have to find it.

Cheers

Mike Jones - a distant cousin?

I think the 1881 birthplace of Wem is a mistake - the rest of the family was born there and I suspect the census taker wrote down "Wem" for the whole lot. That's easier to believe than the Denbighshire birthplace being the wrong one. It's 99% certainly the same family in 1871 and 1881.

I'm sure Amelia H is Amy's sister. She had me confused for a long time. I have Amy's marriage certificate and she was 23 in 1895.

No - I was born in Yorkshire, and the Jones line goes back through Cheshire, several generations in Shropshire and now (probably) getting into Flintshire. The family legend is that we were from Dolgellau originally, but no sign of that yet.

Well, any of their birth certs would do. She's with them in 1881 but a servant in Welshampton in 1891.
