Hi,

Looking at the 1861 census John Booth was born Huby  ;D  and Rachel born Owlstone - I am directionally challenged on this one  ::)

What about this Mo :

The 1851 census image gives her birth place as Oulston.

Hello Pels and Mo

Thank you both so much for all your time and effort on this one.  I have read through all your replies but will need to do so again to try and get it all straight in my mind.

At first reading, it looks like Mary is a Thompson after all.  Her mother = Rachel Thompson who married a John Booth.  Because of the long delay between Mary being born (1846) and Rachel marrying (1853), I doubt if John is Mary's biological father.  He probably just stood in as her father on her wedding day.

I now don't need to keep looking for a Mary Booth!

With grateful thanks to you both for all your help.

Best wishes.

Zephyr
