15 Corrie Street, Sheffield

I presume 'Corrie' means 'Coronation'!

I am trying to find out who lived at 15 Corrie Street, Sheffield in 1919.  In particular, I would be keen to know if any of the residents had the surname 'Sutton'.

As I live overseas, it is not possible for me to visit records offices in the UK, and I have come up a blank using online resources.  Could someone please help, if only to point me in the right direction where I can find out the information?

I have an old Sheffield A-Z  ( post 1919) which shows there used to be a Carrie Street, and a name change to Sellers Road

Sellers Road runs off Abbeydale Road, which would be Ecclesall Bierlow reg. for your time span.

No Corrie Street listed though, and not able to help with any residents names.

Thanks lemur41.  I appreciate the information.  Yes, it seems very plausible that Corrie is a mistranscription of Carrie.

There wasn't a Coronation Street in Sheffield to be shortened to "Corrie", there  is  a Corporation Street, which is around the Markets area. But I think my "find" of Carrie St is the correct one. 

There do seem to be quite a lot of Sutton surname living around Sellers Road area on the 1911.

My maternal grandparents lived 2 mins walk from Sellers Road, so I know the area quite well.

Thanks for that further information.

I just tried an address search on Findmypast but Sellers Road is not listed.  I also tried Abbeydale Road, which is a large road!!  Have spotted some Suttons so will go through them and see if any ring a bell.

Abbeydale Road is one of the oldest roads  and  was one of the main roads out of Sheffield 100 years ago.

Lots of demolitian work for road widening and new arterial roads have removed a lot of the old streets and properties.



Try looking for Aizlewood Road, Sellers intersects that as well in my old  A-Z.

Also forgot to add that unless you can identify the Sutton family you are looking for on the 1911, you will have problems until the 1921 is released.

There were no Electoral rolls during the years of the Great War 1914-1918, and also, only males  of the age 21+ had a vote and were listed

Unless some other kind rootschats member comes along and recognises something here that will help you

I might indeed have to wait till the 1921 census. I was thinking that perhaps the city council has rent or rate records?
