Hussars and Guards were armoured regiments during ww2 However the Brigade of Guards were and are primarily infantry.
The formation  in 1941 of The Guards Armoured Division was for war duration only.
The Lifeguards and Royal Horse Guards remained under the title of Household Cavalry and were armoured

Thanks so much for the replies, and the doubt in my last posting has been verified. The cap badge would be of a tank regiment as this isnt Uncle Fred, its another uncle !

Coincidentally one of his sons has been in touch and is searching out his old service memorabilia
